Lighting Tips For Your Kitchen

A kitchen is the heart of a home and a place where happiness is cooked every day for the family. So it must have proper lighting if you want to conveniently use all areas. Your cooking platform is most important because that is where all the action occurs. So make sure you have a bright light just above the platform to help you see what you are doing clearly.

Modern kitchen lighting offers more convenience and you can use LED spotlights that add a big attraction to your kitchen. These lights can be used to focus in on areas where you feel you need an extra burst of light. These lights are becoming very popular in the UK and help make your kitchen stand out. You can also consider having LED lights inside the kitchen cabinets that will help you see tins, cutlery and snacks in the dark. This is required in cases where your cabinet is placed in an area where the daylight or your ceiling lights cannot reach.

How to de-clutter your kitchen?

Finding it hard to make space for food prep or even making a cup of tea due to the clutter build up in your kitchen? If this sounds like your kitchen, then it’s time to make a change.

Your kitchen worktop should be a clutter free zone, a place where you can prepare your meals in a minimalistic environment. Start by having a clear out- This means getting a bin bag and begin ruthless with items you need and things you don’t. This is also the perfect time to find new locations for any items that don’t belong in your kitchen.

Next on the agenda is sorting out your appliances- Work out what appliances are essential, such as the kettle, toaster and microwave, and then decide where you can store your remaining appliances, such as a blender or cake mixer. Hiding appliances away and only bringing them out when you need to use them, will provide you with more counter-top space for preparing your meals.

Brightening up your kitchen

If your kitchen is always looking dull due to poor light entry, there are a few changes you could try to improve this.

Windows- If you have a large window that has a netting covering it, try choose a roller blind instead, that way you can control what light enters your room. You may live in a house that has beveled glass in the kitchen windows, although this helps improve privacy you may find it hinders light entry.

Ceiling lights- check the wattage of the bulbs in your ceiling lights, and put a higher wattage in if needed. Make sure you lamp shades don’t affect the light in the kitchen, try a glass shade to help amplify any light produced.

Cupboard lighting- Under cupboard lighting can be placed on floor cabinets and overhead cabinets, helping to light up your work surface and it can also add a nice ambiance to the room too.

How to brighten up your kitchen

We often don’t realise how important lighting is for the kitchen until it’s not there or it’s bad. That’s why, when you begin planning a kitchen remodelling project, your kitchen lighting plan should be one of the first things you plot out and one that you definitely should not skimp on or neglect.
Recreate your kitchen by having windows that can let in much bright light so that you can reduce electricity needs. You can also use patio doors, skylights, and entry doors with glass panels so that the sunlight can penetrate through spaces and add some light into dark corners and sides. Note that this day-lighting is environment-friendly and priceless. On the other hand, you must make sure that the design of such windows and doors must be quite flexible since winter can cause lesser heat and colder temperature while hotter and warmer during summer.

Another step to brightening any kitchen is to accessorise properly. Hanging dark, heavy curtains or blinds will obviously diminish any lighting effects you’ve installed. An interesting contemporary design concept is to decorate your walls with items that are polished and gleaming. Copper and tin pans that hang from the ceiling on or your back splash add a touch of shine to any room. Utilise your cabinet back lighting by placing a unique crystal vase or heirloom serving dish directly in the spotlight. Additionally, be sure to keep your stainless steel elements clean and streak-free. Not only will this task show off your appliances but also eliminate residue and grease build-up.

However, the easiest solution to maintaining a bright look is to install a mirror. No matter what the size, any mirror will reflect the ambient light in your kitchen. To create the illusion of additional space, hang a mirror opposite a mirror and it’ll seem like your kitchen extends forever.

Integrated ovens maximise your kitchens potential.

Choosing to modernise your kitchen can be a costly but cost worthy update, especially when it comes to selling your property. A new modern kitchen can add thousands on to your property should you sell it. If you’re not looking to sell your home but your kitchen just requires an update, taking the time to select a good quality kitchen is a must, you want your kitchen to be durable and last for at least 10 years. When choosing your kitchen, you can also consider integrated appliances such as a dishwasher, oven, microwave or even fridge.White Kitchen Cabinet

Integrated ovens look more pleasing to the eye than you old fashioned free standing appliance. With a new kitchen design you also have the opportunity to place the integrated oven in a new place. A very popular place to have an integrated oven is higher up at arms level, some say it’s a new fad.

Having an integrated oven also allows you to update your other appliances such as your microwave and dishwasher, these items can also be integrated and allows for all of your appliances to match, making your final kitchen design an eye pleaser.

If you have the space adding a workspace island into the centre of your kitchen is fantastic, the island can contain storage space, with extra cupboards and drawers. On the surface top of your island you can have your hot plate hobs. The hobs do not need to be near your integrated oven, and if you have chosen to have the oven at arms height then the hob can no longer be placed above.

Getting your kitchen style right is not an easy task but is defiantly worthwhile, adding style to your property, and convenience to your cooking space, making it much easier to host a meal with friends or family.
