I grew up in
Newbury, leaving in 1967 to pursue a career in the Army. On leaving
the Army, I set up a narrowboat building and hiring operation in Godalming before joining The Royal Horticultural Society to manage site services. From 1991 to

FABU near Strasbourg
I have always been fascinated by boats, since working for John Gould on the
Kennet
& Avon canal as a teenager.
Currently I am restoring my steel motor cruiser FABU and I am gradually exploring the inland waterways of Europe whenever I can get away.
For those interested, FABU was commissioned in 1981. She is a twin diesel-engined Dutch-built Kotter. She accommodates four in comfort and her draught of 1.5 metres permits access to more than 90% of the European inland waterway system. Her breadth of 4.5 metres keeps her away fom the British canal system!
